What a day yesterday..Think I'm emotionally drained!! The Steelers came back in the second half from a 2 TD deficit to beat the hated Ravens.. So, on to the AFC Championship game :=) Something to note.. Both birds lost yesterday.. Ravens and Falcons.. Another bird is playing today..Seahawk.. and they 're sure to go down... Wonder how the Jets fit into this.. they do fly, so they might also fall, BUT am rooting for them as, if they win, we'll have another home game!! so, go Jets!!
Countdown to vacation.. 11 days.. We're using Apple Vacations.. really makes traveling easy.. one package includes non-stop to Cancun, transfer to resort and room and food and drinks..They don't service every city, but we're lucky here..
We've done a lot of traveling by the seat of our pants, tho!! For several years, our daughter worked for a major airline and parents flew free on stand-by. Our last trip was the best.. We learned we had a much better chance to get transatlantic stand-by when we drove to Washington (5 hr drive). so we planned Paris for a long weekend ( thats all the budget allowed in hotel expenses!) Made stand-by on the first flight we tried, immediately called her and she got us a hotel room using Priceline for 4 nts. so off we went with nothing but a carry-on.. Found traveling the Metro was a piece of cake and pulled out our Frommers for 3 days of sightseeing!! Next day, they closed all the airports because of the volcano!! 3 sightseeing days turned into 5, then 7,then 9, then started over.. What an amazing time we had. Having no return ticket was bothersome, but our new and wonderful son-in-law turned in his frequent flyer miles to get us home!! (love him dearly).. We saw things i don't think the natives ever get to.. Jim Morrisons grave for one!!! ps.. we're still paying the hotel bills for this one!!
Unfortunately, she no longer works for the airlines, so our free flights are over.. My hubby, who i didn't think liked big cities, so loved Paris.. we actually were looking for studio rentals in Paris, but alas, plane fare is rising, so don't think that seems too feasible.. Maybe I'll share Paris stories in the future...
